Kapiti Coast Cycling Inc Manifesto

Kapiti Cycling Inc. is a voice for Kapiti Coast cyclists – we are a volunteer organisation representing cyclists of all ages and abilities who wish to cycle safely throughout the region.

The benefits of cycling

Cycling is fast for short trips, energy efficient and helps create more liveable communities.

Cycling to work and school is an effective way to combat congestion, pollution, and an easy and natural way to incorporate regular exercise into our daily lives to keep healthy.

Cycling Tourism is low impact tourism and generates great economic benefits for the community/communities.

Goals of Kapiti Cycling Inc

Kapiti Cycling Incorporated is committed to these goals and seeks to work with individuals and organizations who have similar objectives.

  1. Kapiti Coast urban streets and country roads are perceived safe and pleasant for cycling.
    • Slower traffic — stricter enforcement of speed limits and the piloting of speed limits around schools and residential streets
    • Kerbside or car-side lanes on busy roads and facilities carried through intersections
  2. The Kapiti Coast hierarchy of off-road pathways are enhanced to provide direct routes for cyclists to all utilities, public spaces, work and school.
    • State Highways, railway corridors, public reserves and parks, stream and riversides and new subdivision pathways are utilized wherever possible to provide cycling routes.
    • Cyclists should be able to cycle between towns and communities on the Kapiti Coast in a safe environment
    • All cycling pathways are easy to access, clearly signposted and well maintained.
  3. Promote Cycle Tourism
    • Giving priority to the Kapiti Coastal Cycle Route completion and improvement- proposed to run from the Northern Border of the district to Paekakariki.
    • Incorporate historical and ecological sites in the Kapiti Coastal Cycle Route
    • Promote the Kapiti Coastal Cycle Route in all publicity materials and overseas. Promote the KCCR to cycling tours operators within the country.
